3 Days and 4 nights of multicultural dance performances, 3 DJs, 34 hours of dance workshops, over 20 dance instructors from different parts of United States teaching under the same roof, performers from Cuba, Peru, Venezuela, Martinique, Barbados, Mexico and USA together to celebrate their love for Afro-Cuban dance and music.
Featuring the following Dance Class Instructors:
Kati Hernandez (La Habana-Cuba) A native of Cuba, Kati brings to the United States her humble, yet explosive and uplifting energy. Kati’s knowledge of dance and choreography reveals her intricate and versatile style, making her a highly sought-after performer, nationally and internationally.
Ana Llorente (La Habana, Cuba) She started her dance career in Havana, where she graduated with Honors from the Cuban National School of Arts specializing in Modern Dance and Afro-Cuban Folklore, her extensive training and dedication gave her the opportunity to be recognize as the best performer and choreographer of her age after a very important and only invitational dance festival in Havana.
Ana also has served as a Choreographer and Principal dancer in many MTV videos for Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin, Will Smith, Julio Iglesias, Chayanne, Vanessa Williams, Gipsy Kings in Concert, "Boleros" with Ricardo Montalban, famous Latin singer Johnny Ventura and she was the principal dancer of "Dirty Dancing"#2 "Havana Nights".
Duane Wren (New Orleans, LA) Native Duane Wrenn was born to dance. Learning Salsa as a young adult at the age of 25, Duane is a highly recognized Fitness Consultant with a B.S. degree in Exercise Science from the University of New Orleans. He created a Salsa Aerobic class with an accompanying video aptly named Energetic Salsa™. He is also the creator of Soul°sa™, which combines linear and circular styles of Salsa dancing. His background ranges from Folkloric to Popular dances such as: Dances of the Orisha, Afro Cuban Rumba, Danzón, Son, Mambo, Cha cha cha, Casino, Rueda de Casino, Capoiera and Break Dancing.
Eric Joseph Johnson (San Francisco, CA) Eric is co-director and producer of "La Salsa Cubana," a documentary film made with Sarita Streng about rueda de casino dancing in Cuba. During 2003 and 2004 Eric lived in Cuba while studying dance in the streets and neighborhoods of Havana and as a matriculated student at the Instituto Superior de Arte, Cuba’s premier university of performing arts and Cuban dance at the University of California, San Diego. He now lives and dances in San Francisco.
Mike and Simona (Corvallis, OR) From Portland to Philadelphia, to Honolulu to Houston - Mike and Simona are spreading their love of Casino Salsa. They started Rumbanana Salsa Group in January 2000 as a way to promote Cuban Salsa dancing in the Pacific Northwest. They promote Cuban music and dance by shaking our body all over the world. Seriously, they love Cuban Salsa (Casino), Rueda de Casino and are totally addicted to Timba. UNA BULLA!
Julián Mejía (Manizales, Colombia – Atlanta, GA) Julian moved to Atlanta 1999 and under the name of SALSAtlanta, started the only Casino school and Casino performance group in Georgia. More than 6,000 students have passed through his classes in Atlanta and Athens, Georgia; also conducts salsa classes in different clubs in the greater Atlanta area. He was recognized during the 6th Annual International Salsa Congress in Miami by the school Salsa Lovers with the "Alex Award" for his contribution to the world of Latin Dance.
Arturo Rojas (Lima, Peru) Arturo is the director of the Peruvian Latin Dance Cultural Association. He started dancing in 1996 in the group “Imagenes”, one of the most important dance groups in Peru, where he began with Salsa de Salon, fusing Cuban Casino and Afro-Cuban dance with Afro-Peruvian dance. That is what he will be teaching at SALSAtlanta’s 10.2 event.
Joby Martinez (Los Angeles/Atlanta) Spreading the PASSION of Salsa as a Pioneer of "L.A. Style Salsa" for 15 years to 43 different countries and limitless cities in the US. Bringing the Best in Latin Dancing, electrifying choreography, hot but easy to follow Instruction, dazzling performances, event production, salsa career consulting, 8 different Video/DVDs available. Joby Vazquez has had wonderful opportunity to perform in movies, television, film, videos and stage shows with artist such as Sinbad, Tito Puente, Thalia, Jennifer Lopez, Chayanne, Vanessa Williams, Tito Nieves, and many more.
